This baby really does love disco

My little dancer loved hanging out in a club. Uh-oh...
I knew that "Baby Loves Disco" was a nationwide phenomenon...but I didn't really believe it until I saw it for myself.
A few hundred tiny children and their doting parents absolutely packed a local club a couple of Saturdays ago. It's a club my husband and I go to sometimes - and I'd like to say it was completely transformed by the children, but...no. It wasn't.
Oh, the lights were brighter, the music was quieter, and the front entryway had a bunch of tables where the kids could do crafts, but it was still a club.
And you know, I think that was part of the allure for my children!
"Mom, have you seen any good DJs here?" asked my son. "Did you jump on the lights on the floor?" asked my daughter.
Um, yes, and no. But I have danced there until, well, once, until dawn!
The thing about Baby Loves Disco, though, was that its popularity is equally a blessing and a curse.
It was cool to run into a ton of people I hadn't seen in a while - adults, that is. Former co-workers, and even a very close friend were there unexpectedly.
But all those people - seriously, it was more packed than I've seen it on a Saturday night - made it tough for the kids. Little ones can dart between adults and other kids and suddenly you can't see yours anymore! (Fortunately, mine just wanted to follow the colored spotlights on the dance floor.)
So I was glad we got there early, at the beginning of the three-hour event. We left about 90 minutes in, but my kids were satisfied. They'd gotten to dance, they'd gotten to see where Mommy and Daddy go sometimes, and the sliced apples and bagel chunks and other kid-friendly food made for a great snack time.
We'll probably go back...but maybe on a sunny day. It was pouring on the day we went; what better way to pass a rainy Seattle day than to dance in an underground (literally - it's in a basement) club?
