Playing hard and staying strong

I changed jobs at the beginning of January. I'm still working for the same huge company, but in a different role.

Frankly, it's incredibly exciting. First off, I love that every few years I can totally change jobs and do something different...but keep my salary, benefits, commute (well, never mind that part, the commute is no fun), but stability is - I keep my stability while trying something new.

But this job in particular - working on an experimental software and… Read More

The perfect life

Posted February 15, 2008

Last weekend was totally crazy. John and I dropped the kids off at his parents' house for the weekend, and along with another couple (who dropped their kids off at a relative's, too), hopped on an airplane to San Francisco.

We left after work on Friday night; got to our hotel past 11 p.m., changed into club clothes and headed out.

Aww yeah baby, let's pretend we're 23 instead of 33, right? We danced until the lights came up, then headed back… Read More

Last-minute mom

When did my kids make Valentines? Two days before the holiday. How about doing their Christmas shopping? The weekend before, of course. When they get invited to a birthday party, thank goodness for gift bags! You can wrap the gift in the car on the way to the party, right after you left the store where you bought it!

Tissue-paper flowers for Valentine's Day

So obviously Valentine's Day isn't my holiday.

But every year, I help the kids make Valentines for their friends. This year, The Girl and I made tissue-paper flowers with a wrapped lollipop in the center. It was a fun project for both of us, and I'm certain her Valentines will be unique!

(I'm also glad there are only 10 kids other than… Read More

This baby really does love disco

Posted February 07, 2008

I knew that "Baby Loves Disco" was a nationwide phenomenon...but I didn't really believe it until I saw it for myself.

A few hundred tiny children and their doting parents absolutely packed a local club a couple of Saturdays ago. It's a club my husband and I go to sometimes - and I'd like to say it was completely transformed by the children, but...no. It wasn't.

Oh, the lights were brighter, the music was quieter, and the front entryway had a… Read More

Quitting - or focusing?

Posted February 05, 2008

Saturday was an amazing day to be a snow sports lover: we were out of town at a great ski area 2 and a half hours from home, and the ski area had been dumped on all week. And then Saturday, what should appear but the sun - which we Seattleites haven't seen since...October, or so.

My hubby, my son, and a couple of friends spent the day at Mt. Baker Ski Area - and once again, I was faced with… Read More
