I know Halloween recipes are supposed to be spooky and icky and disgusting, but aren't these white-chocolate-covered peanut butter eyeballs -- paired with the Wilton witch-feet cupcake cups -- just the cutest?
You'll also notice from the photo caption that the recipe, from celebrity pastry chef Gale Gand of Food Network's Sweet Dreams, wasn't just devised to make me coo with eyeball glee; Gand teamed up with the American Association of Orthodontists to come up with Halloween sweets that were safe for braces. Let's face it, if your kids are going to stuff their faces with sugar on this great American holiday, you might as well be sure they're only damaging their teeth -- not the expensive wire contraptions hooked onto them.
Peanut Butter Eyeballs
Ingredients: 1/4 cup butter
2 cups plus 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
1 cup creamy peanut butter
1 1/2 cups toasted rice cereal
12 ounces white chocolate
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Food coloring - two colors
Directions: Click to the AAO website for the full recipe and more braces-friendly Halloween sweets.
And while you're shopping around, check out these other Halloween-themed baking cups, all made of flexible silicone:
