Yummy reading!
Posted by: ShortOrderMom
Our family is full of avid readers. There is one child who is taking her time to warm up to reading, but as for the rest of us, our appetite for books is voracious. I have over 150 cookbooks in my unofficial collection, and the family library is in the 1000+ range.
One of my favorite types of book is fiction or non-fiction books that are about food, or include food, but aren't cookbooks. The Peter Mayle Provence trilogy is certainly one set, but I also adore children's books with a side of food like "Everything on a Waffle" by Polly Horvath. I have several fun kid books about Halloween and my favorite fall food, pumpkins! Get thee to a library and ? check them out.
Big Pumpkin, by Erica Silverman, Illustrated by S.D. Schindler
There's nothing better than growing your own pumpkin and turning it
into pumpkin pie. But what if you couldn't get your pumpkin off the
vine? The witch finds out, in this funny book about friends helping
friends and the delicious result of their hard work!
The Perfect Pumpkin Pie , by Denys Cazet
After keeling over into his pie plate and being buried in the
pumpkin patch by his wife, Old Man Wilkerson rises again demanding a
perfect pumpkin pie after a young boy and his grandmother move in to
the old house. A funny story with a great rhyme!
Miss Fiona's Stupendous Pumpkin Pies, by Mark Kimball Moulton, illustrated by Karen Hillard Crouch
There's nothing better on Halloween than waiting until midnight for
a slice of Miss Fiona's Stupendous Pumpkin Pie. This sing-song story
tells all about Miss Fiona, her infamous house and what a wonderful
baker she is; the whole town knows it, and so should you! The
illustrations in this book are beautiful and really make the story come
to life.
Too Many Pumpkins, by Linda White, illustrated by Megan Lloyd
Sick
of eating pumpkin day after day as a child, an older Rebecca Estelle is
hit on the head with a large pumpkin which splatters seeds everywhere
and she promptly buries. The next year turns out a huge crop of
pumpkins for Rebecca Estelle and she needs to figure out what to do
with them all. What she decides on benefits the whole town.
