Batman's already ready to trick or treat
Posted by: WhitneyMWS
This year's Halloween is our biggest yet. At almost-4, my oldest has been asking about it since last spring. He's held firm on what he wants to be for months: a superhero. I don't know where he learned about it but he's been on a kick with the "traditional" superheroes for awhile now -- Superman, Batman and Spiderman being the top three. Each night when he goes to bed, we have to "do" one of the three. Superman involves one of us holding him as he flies in; Batman flies and flaps his wings, while Spiderman stands upright in our arms and shoots spiderwebs at the ceiling.
So with the baby, I wanted to do something cute. I showed my oldest a bunch of pictures of costumes on the BuyCostumes.com site and we ended up with Batman and Robin. (Hopefully the baby won't have a complex about being the "sidekick" for his first Halloween.)
The costumes arrived yesterday and they're adorable. "Batman" insisted on getting into his costume and spent the better part of the day running around. This is the one we got, it's currently on sale for $29.99 so I thought it was a good deal. We also got him the Batman flashlight, which I'm sure will be a hit when he's walking around in the dark trick-or-treating. (And here's the baby's Robin costume. I think they'll make a cute pair.)
Anyway, I've learned over the last few years that you have to buy early. The first year I waited until early October and everything was heavily picked over - so shopping now is key. I really like the BuyCostumes.com site - they seem to have been offering free shipping of some kind for the past few weeks so that's worth checking out.
Babystyle also offers some adorable costumes, especially for infants. I recently saw the Go Fish Bunting and it's too funny in person. Supposedly coupon code BABYJEL will get you $10 off a purchase of $30 or more on their site.
For quick and cheap costumes, Old Navy's great too - two years ago we got a frog costume there that he didn't end up wearing for Halloween but became a fun playroom accessory for dressing up. I'm not seeing any costumes on their website but from having shopped in-store locally two days ago, I know they have plenty of costumes out now.
And Oriental Trading is a great site for all things Halloween. I haven't seen a costume from there before (they do sell them) but they have all sorts of little toys, stickers and accessories for cheap on their site. I plan on buying some stickers and small toys for some of the kids who can't eat candy due to allergies. (We offered mini Playdohs last year mixed in with the candy for those who couldn't take the candy too).
