Cinderella prefers diamonds over candy

Posted by: IronJessica

I love candy so much. It ranks right up there with French fries. So obviously as a Fit Mama, it's got to stay out of my life as much as possible. I really don't want to have it in my house. So I'm trying to figure out what food or little toys I could substitute for candy and not disappoint the neighborhood. I asked the experts: The Boy and The Girl.

The Girl was completely impractical. "A princess dancing set!" she said. "You wouldn't get that for Halloween," The Boy told her.

The Boy made this list:

  • Pretzels
  • A bouncy ball
  • Small games like you might get in a treat sack from a birthday party
  • Fruit snacks
  • Pencils or a cool eraser

But ultimately, he said, "Well, I'm only going to get candy." I take that to mean he thinks it might be cool for SOME OTHER kid to get non-candy treats, but HE is going out to gather candy.

So, great theory - but probably not such a great practice. If I wasn't so fearful of kids T-P'ing my house (which is still on the market), I'd try it. But I think this year, we're going to have to stick to the old standby - fun-size bars (I'd buy some kind I don't actually like, except I pretty much like them all). I'll resort to brushing my teeth every hour Halloween night so I stay away from it - and giving away all the extras to my administrative assistant the next day.

It's one day out of the year - I can be strong!
