Gone are the days of sweet cow costumes
Posted by: BuckeyeChristy
Halloween is only a few weeks away, so the urge to find costumes for
the family has increased dramatically. My husband is still sure he
wants to dress up as a Jedi from Star Wars. I had planned to make his
costume, but I'm now not sure I'll have the time to finish the outfit.
But we still have most of the month, so I might find the time to
complete it.
Mira's costume is ready to go. Since my husband wants to be a Jedi knight, it's only fitting that Mira be dressed as Princess Leia. I purchased this one, and it was too cute to resist. It even comes with a hood that has the side buns on it. She'll be helping daddy hand out candy, and they'll look great in their matching costumes. (Assuming I can get his finished, of course!)
As for me, I really don't have a costume picked out. I'll probably grab one of my medieval or renaissance costumes from my renaissance festival days and wear that to go trick-or-treating with Cordy. It has to be something comfortable that I can run in - when you have a child who likes to run from you, it's good to have clothing that doesn't get in the way.
But until yesterday, we still weren't sure what Cordy was going to dress up as for Halloween. Until now, we've chosen all of her costumes for her. She was a bear at one month old, Tinkerbell as a one year old, and last year she dressed up as a cow. Now I feel she's old enough to have some input in this decision, so we've been asking her what she wants to be, and getting all sorts of answers in response. I'm not sure she really understands the concept yet, but I've been trying to explain it.
Yesterday, I was looking at an online costume store with Cordy.
"Cordy, what do you want to be for Halloween?"
"Howaween?"
"What do you want to dress up as? What costume do you want to wear?"
"Want to wear?"
I sighed. This was going nowhere. She was going to repeat everything I said.
My husband and I narrowed the choices down to a pirate or Supergirl.
"Cordy, do you want to be a pirate or a superhero?"
"A pirate!"
I looked at my husband. Did we have a decision?
"Cordy, are you sure? Would you like to be a superhero?"
"No. A pirate!"
"You want to be a pirate? You're sure?"
"I wanna pirate!"
OK, then. I guess it's settled. She's going to be a pirate for Halloween. And with a little modification to my costume, I can coordinate my costume to go along with hers, so we can roam the streets for trick-or-treat, looking for candy treasure.
