The Ghoul's Guide
Halloween fun, from the spooky to the cutesie
I have to admit, around some of my friends, I get a little embarrassed at this time of year.
"Are you willing to volunteer at the church's Harvest Party on Oct. 31?," they ask me.
And the answer: "Uh, no. My kids are allowed to Trick-or-Treat."
Sometimes I'm met with a non-judgmental, "Oh, okay" -- but other times there's just stunned silence.
Are my kids condemned because I allow them to gather candy in the neighborhood?

In my house, Halloween prep begins in late August or Early September. A little background for you about our family: I am married to a Halloween-crazy man who puts on a semi-famoushaunted house in our basement every Halloween. When I say he creates a haunted basement, I don't mean the "stick your hands in a bowl of peeled grapes" type of home haunted basement. Fall is my absolute favorite time of year. If I could have one season last all year long, it would be autumn; the sights, smells and sounds are so rich compared to other times of year. The largest indicator that fall is upon us is the appearance of pumpkins just about everywhere. Beyond the fact that they are a true sign of my most-loved season, they are also one of my favorite foods.
The versatility… Read MorePosted by: DrMommyKC
When I think back to all the Halloween costumes I had growing up, one word comes to mind: LAME.
I don't blame my parents. They were immigrants to this country and Halloween, you have to admit, is a bit of a strange concept. You dress up in costumes and attempt to threaten neighbors to give you candy or else suffer the consequences..
From childhood photographs, my first Halloween appeared to be when I was around 6 or 7.… Read More
