His and Hers Halloween Decorating

In the Mandajuice family tradition of "he gets the outside, I get the inside," my husband has taken on the task of decorating the house for Halloween. Now if it were up to me, we'd have smiley ghosts and adorable-yet-creepy spiders and lots and lots of glitter embellishing our front porch. It would be young-kid-friendly and cutesy, not scary.

But a deal is a deal and apparently, when I agreed to let Dave have free reign of the… Read More

Arrrr - A Costume Has Been Chosen!

Halloween is only a few weeks away, so the urge to find costumes for the family has increased dramatically. My husband is still sure he wants to dress up as a Jedi from Star Wars. I had planned to make his costume, but I'm now not sure I'll have the time to finish the outfit. But we still have most of the month, so I might find the time to complete it.

Say it with me:

3-D!
3-D!

Must-Read Halloween Books

Our family is full of avid readers. There is one child who is taking her time to warm up to reading, but as for the rest of us, our appetite for books is voracious. I have over 150 cookbooks in my unofficial collection, and the family library is in the 1000+ range.

One of my favorite types of book is fiction or non-fiction books that are about food, or include food, but aren't cookbooks. The Peter Mayle Provence trilogy is certainly… Read More

As mentioned in the previous post, I am a Halloween convert. After spending much of my life as a weenie, I married a Halloween crazy man and I have grown quite fond of Halloween and all that goes with it. As a "convert" to the whole Halloween-fun-fest, I had to learn quickly how to create parties for the hard-core fans of the holiday. Read and learn campers. Here are some fun things that will make your party… Read More

Make-At-Home Costumes on a Budget

Posted October 09, 2007

As much as I enjoy Halloween and all the dressing up, candy and fun, I don't enjoy the often costly costumes on the market. With 5 kids to outfit still (the teens knew they were on their own once they hit 13), the cost can escalate very quickly without even getting halfway done. When I was a kid there were two very basic choices; make your own costume or purchase pre-made plastic costumes with the window-box front.… Read More
