The Best Gifts are Homemade

My first homemade Mother's Day gift and card!
As a child I guess I never quite believed my mother when she would tell me that the best gifts were homemade.
I would scrimp and save my allowance money to buy her something really special for her birthday or Mother's Day. Perfume? Jewelry? Inevitably, I never had enough to buy what I really wanted to get for her.
"The best gifts are homemade," Mom would tell me.
On the big day her face would brighten with joy as she opened the scraggly woven potholder, the stick-figure drawing, the homemade card.
Though I was - and am - NOT artistic in the least, Mom would always feature my primitive sketches prominently on the refrigerator.
Fast-forward to this past weekend, when I myself was delighted with both a card and a sort-of homemade gift (well, made at school).
The card was especially heartwarming as it was the first time Annie wrote all the words and signed her name. A year ago - at 3 and a half - my husband was still signing cards for her.
It sounds so corny, but now I get it.
The best gifts - from your child at least - are those that come from the heart.
