Well, not exactly.
I just signed-up Annie for 8 consecutive weeks of swim lessons this summer. Am I crazy? I just couldn't help it. She's been taking lessons twice a week for the last 8 weeks and I've really noticed improvement: I mean, she's sort of putting her face in the water and kind of dog-paddling.
So, in a wave of enthusiasm, I signed up for all four sessions at our local city pool. That's 8 weeks of swim lessons, four days a week for 30 minutes.
She will either hate swimming by August, or love it.
While signing her up I couldn't help but notice all the other cool summer day camps our city offers: junior lifeguards, ballet-tap camp, art camp, gymnastics, Aikido, tennis, soccer and chess camp.
For most of them, your child needs to be 5, but a few are open to 4-year-olds.
It made me just a little nostalgic recalling my own lazy childhood summers. Sure, I went to sleep-away camp twice, and a couple of other day camps, but most days were spent just playing with neighborhood kids and hanging out. Lemonade stands. Backyard musical theatre productions.
I hope I can preserve some of that old-fashioned summer laziness as Annie grows older and not fall prey to the over-scheduling disease so prevalent today.
We'll see.
Tae kwon doe camp, anyone?
