The trouble with eating for two

I found this helpful Thank You! Your vote will be tallied soon!

My nickname was 'Five-ton Sally'

My husband is fond of using the "But, you're eating for two!" excuse whenever he is trying to get me to indulge in dessert or seconds these days.

I don't know why he encourages me to become huge.

I mean, hello, remember the last pregnancy when I was huge, that wasn't fun was it? You think I'm exaggerating, but no. I gained 51+ pounds by the time I delivered, which for my 5'4½" frame, is living large. I was 10 days late, to boot, and during those last days, I swear, the fluid build-up was noticeably more with each passing day.

I remember looking at my feet during labor and almost not recognizing them due to their elephant-ness.

I was a large, bloated monster.

So this time around, I'm trying to be better about the weight gain. Not giving into every craving for fast food and completely non-nutritious junk food. (Overlooking the pack of fruit Mentos I consumed yesterday.) Exercising almost every day.

I want to be healthier this time around and, yes, not ginormous.

But the pregnancy food restrictions are killing me.

No sushi. (Believe me, I researched this one to death for the chance that I could, with good conscience, eat sushi. But alas, it's really the risk of infection with Listeria that pregnant women are 20 times more likely to contract than regular people, which wouldn't hurt me too badly, but could be devastating for a fetus.)

No alcohol. (Enough said.)

No lunchmeat. (Listeria again, darn you bacteria! So much for my daily sandwiches for lunch.)

No soft cheeses. (Brie, where did you go?)

Fish, but not too much fish. (Crossing off tuna fish for my daily sandwiches for lunch.)

Which means for lunch today, I had instant ramen soup. Is this healthier than the alternative?

25 weeks to go???

About Me

When I'm not writing here or at Where's My Cape?, I can be found practicing internal medicine, teaching, chasing my daughter, and not sleeping nearly enough. I don't trust squirrels farther than I can throw them.
