The big girl bed

I found this helpful Thank You! Your vote will be tallied soon!

After waiting many moons since we picked out and ordered our daughter's big girl bed, it finally was delivered yesterday. Seriously, 14 weeks for children's furniture? I swear it was not custom-made or carved out of a redwood by hand.

14 weeks did give us a  lot of lead-time to get her mentally prepared for the transition though. She was there when we picked it out, and ever since then, we've sprinkled mentionings of The Big Girl Bed in everyday conversation, as in, "Soon, you'll have your big girl bed!" and "Jolie's special big girl bed is going to be coming!"

We picked out sheets for The Big Girl Bed and basically hyped it up so much that we couldn't wait either. Or rather, I couldn't wait. This was a big milestone.

I realized this was a big transition and not necessarily an easy one so we decided to put the bed right next to her crib and allow her to opt for her stand-by if she got weirded out. No pressure. Maybe she could take naps in The Big Girl Bed and sleep overnight in her crib. We'd give her the option.

Yet, when the bed came, she was ALL ABOUT sleeping in The Big Girl Bed. Crib who?

We had to set everything up that night- putting up the bed rails we bought to prevent accidental rolls off the bed and to also provide a semblance of enclosure that she's been used to for her life to date.

She was SO EXCITED.

We transported her posse of crib friends into her bed and -not sure if this was a good idea- also transferred her Aquarium toy, the one that she cannot bear to be without. (I half-joked to JP about her hanging it up above her dorm room bed in college.)

She climbed right in, underneath what seemed like miles of comforter and sheets, this little blip in the twin-sized bed. A tiny pea.

There's really been no real transition...she's there in The Big Girl Bed for every nap and bedtime- she's still excited and we're about ready to move out the crib into our still rather empty nursery.

The end of an era.

We're just hoping she doesn't figure out she can  just climb out of this one. Not anytime soon at least.
