Not much room in the tee pee
Speaking of baby boy genitalia, I am discovering what a dangerous world diapering can be. I mean, when you've got to wear protective gear in order to avoid being hit by the super-soaker...where did I put my safety goggles?
I had all the advice beforehand: cover his little guy loosely with a diaper in case of a mid-change pee event, blah blah blah.
We did this, but quickly realized that once the pee event happens, all the disposable diaper does is shield a fountain spray but does not absorb all of the liquid, resulting in a wet changing area and most often, wet clothes. ARG.
I found these cute-as-a-button things online, coyly named Pee-pee Teepees, promising to make those diaper changes danger-free.
Hello? Ingenious. Of course, I ordered them.
They are basically terry-cloth lined cotton cones that you slip onto the offending part while you change him. They come 5 to a package and come with a teeny-tiny laundry-bag to wash them in.
After using them for a couple of weeks, I will say this: they are cute. Not wholly effective, but cute. First off, the teepees are small (and here I was wondering if our son's privates were, ahem, normal-sized. It seems so small!) and lightweight, so, perching one of these on top is not very stable. You need to hold it in placeĀ a bit (while holding the legs and doing the changing business, a bit of a dance). Also, while the terry-cloth is absorptive, during a pee event, the teepee gets saturated but we still had pee leak down around his waist and ultimately still got his clothes wet. ARG.
I love the idea but I wish they woud work a little better.
A cloth diaper or a burp cloth that you can drape temporarily works well. At least it keeps your hands free.
Maybe I should invent something...
