Purrrfect

Last Halloween, we stuck our then-1 ½ year old daughter into a hand-me-down bunny costume from Old Navy since a) we had the costume and it fit, and b) isn't this what you do on Halloween to kids too small to really get it and too small to enjoy the candy loot?  Make them wear some kind of degrading animal or vegetable gear?

I convinced myself that she would appreciate it somewhere down the road, laughing at the super-cute pictures of her sweating in the hand-me-down bunny costume.

This year, in my quest to top my sad childhood Halloweens, I started looking early for a cool costume for her, now older, and more able to appreciate the whole dress-up idea. I wasn't sure what kind of costume I wanted for her- being as she's more brute and less fairy princess, I was thinking something more along the animal line.

 I was flipping through the One Step Ahead / Leaps and Bounds catalogs and, first of all, discovered that there were lots of costumes for the infant set and lots of costumes for the older kids set, but not too many options for my sumo-toddler. Slim-pickings, indeed. But then I saw the perfect costume for her- one that would fit a child from 2T-4T: a TIGER.

Oooh! Oooh!

A tiger would totally suit our active, outgoing, non-girly daughter. I thought to myself, this is the costume she would pick if she had the rational decision-making capacity to pick a costume for herself since it totally matches her personality. Another bonus, since it's unisex, our incubating baby boy might be able to wear this someday! (I'm so about things being unisex these days after having to put away a metric ton of pink, frilly baby clothes that will never be worn by our yet-to-be-born son. Not that boys can't wear pink, but I draw the line at dresses and ruffles.)

We got the costume in a week, tops, and I squealed with delight when I took it out of the box. Too cute! It fits her perfectly and she's already walked around the house modeling the tiger head-gear. It's soft, well-made, with little paws, a tail, and beautifully decorated to boot.

Now we just have to wait....over a month!  Grrrrrrrrr.
