Father's Day Do-over

I want a do-over.

Don't get me wrong. Our Father's Day was pretty nice. When JP got home from his run, I had trained Jolie to say "Happy Daddy Day!" first thing. (We first practiced "Happy Father's Day!" but that just came out like "Happy FAHDAY", on to plan B).

Jolie ran to get his Father's Day card, one that she had adorned with random blue marker.

I had Jolie help me present JP's gift: a collage for his office featuring choice photos of the two of them.

We had one of our favorite brunches of bagels and lox and rounded up the day with an afternoon in our local public gardens, complete with a contraband picnic. (Hey, I didn't see the no food or drink sign until after we were done, I swear.)

So, a nice day.

But, looking back on it, I feel like I didn't get the chance to truly convey how much of a wonderful father he is. That I missed my chance to communicate how lucky we both are to have him in our lives.

Just watching the two of them together, I sometimes feel like a voyeur, watching the magic that happens between them. They talk seriously. Or laugh maniacally. She loves to be around him, to be with him. He is clearly her hero already.

He is so good with her.

Surely if there was an award for Most Brilliant and Accomplished Public Health Servant Who Also is The Number One Dad, he would get it, hands down. He is brilliant at what he does for his career, yet always puts us first.

You can't ask for more than that.

I hope one day Jolie will truly appreciate how blessed she is to have such a loving, devoted, and talented father.

I'll make sure she knows.

Happy Belated Father's Day, JP. (Again)
