Mama's Latest Find: Glad Simply Cooking Microwave Bags

Just the other day, I was having a typical mommy conversation during a playdate at the park. We were discussing our children's diets. This good friend told me how much her daughter, who is 2-years-old, loves broccoli.
"You're kidding me! I'd do anything to get one of my kids to eat a leafy green vegetable," I told her.
That's when my friend made an EXCELLENT point that I had never considered before.
"Well, she always sees my husband and me eating it, so she doesn't really know any better."
It was one of those "now why didn't I think of that" moments.
The Golfer and I both like vegetables and eat them regularly--well, fairly regularly. But we probably haven't always modeled the best veggie eating behavior. On most nights I feed the boys around six o'clock. Then when my husband gets home, he helps with homework and puts them to bed while I cook our dinner. (It's not a perfect situation--I would love nothing more than to sit down as a family every night for dinner--but it is a system that is working for us.) Our boys are never seeing us eat our veggies because they are already in bed when we sit down to the table.
Well, I recently discovered something that will make cooking veggies easier, which might just motivate me enough to fix fresh veggies all the time. They are Simply Cooking Microwave Steaming Bags. A box of 10 will cost you around $2.99.
I tried them for the first time last night with broccoli. After cutting and washing the fresh broccoli, I put it all in the bag and zipped it up. On the bags are instructions, for both fresh and frozen, on how long you should put different veggies in the microwave for. Within three minutes, my broccoli was steamed to perfection--the prettiest shade of green and cooked just enough to still be crisp.
And the best part? There was nothing for me to clean up. No steamer baskets. No pot filled with green water. Just an empty baggie to throw away.
I, however, decided not to throw it away. The bag itself was still in perfect shape, so I rinsed it out and by this morning it was dry and ready to be used again. So even though there are only 10 bags in the box, I plan on getting at least double the use out of them.
Does this mean that I will start serving broccoli at all my meals? Probably not, but I am anxious to try out some other veggies to see how they turn out.
No mess. Easy to use. Makes cooking your favorite veggies a snap. Simply the best $2.99 you'll ever spend.
