I got my Christmas present early.

I found this helpful Thank You! Your vote will be tallied soon!

So I woke up last Friday--Black Friday--with an itch to redecorate our bedroom.  This is not unusual, as I have to stratch this kind of an itch quite often.

"I wanna go shopping today," I told the Golfer.

"You. Have. Got. To. Be. Kidding," he dramatically replied.

"No, I'm not.  I want new stuff for our bedroom."

Now, I knew that this would get him.  He hasn't liked our bedroom either for quite some time.  For a long time I had used the "I'm the only girl in the family" excuse for having a Shabby Chic, pink, floral master bedroom.  Oprah said once that a master bedroom should be the woman's sanctuary, and I agreed with her to the point of totally taking advantage of my easy going husband.

Other people would come over, see our bedroom and say, "Wow--you're husband doesn't care?"

"No!" I would say, which was sort-of the truth.  I have a husband that often replies, "If it makes you happy Babe, then it's fine with me," even when it's not his first choice.  Yes, I know that I'm a lucky woman.

But my husband's luck was about to change.  Ever since we moved to California last year, my taste in decorating has changed.  I have become a "less is more" kind of decorator--wanting to purge anything that's only purpose was to clutter up my house.  I have started to appreciate a more modern look--not a stark, cold modern look, but the family-friendly-but-still-cool modern look.  I call it my California Look--having less to do with California and more to do with the fact that we moved.

So on Black Friday, I drug the four men in my life to our local Bed, Bath and Beyond store to hunt down Jonathan Adler's Happy Home collection.  Jonathan Adler is a designer who believes "that your home should make you happy" and I love that.  (Just read his manifesto.  Who knew a designer could be so funny!)  His Happy Home collection gives you a fabulous designer look for less, which makes any redecorator happy.

As the Golfer, the Cheese, and the Monkey entertained themselves in a couple of $740 massage chairs, I stacked our cart full.  Suddenly the Golfer stopped relaxing when I pulled up next to him with a cart oozing with Euro shams and duvet covers.

"Uh, Babe..." was all that he could think to say.

"I know, I know.  But..." was all that I could think to say.

"How about this," he started to say.  "Why don't we just make this our Christmas present to each other?"

"Merry Christmas to me!" I said as I smiled and pushed the cart toward the check-out line.  Like I said girls, I am a lucky woman.  I also think he was willing to do just about anything to get rid of the pink floral bedding he had been sleeping on.

So after a trip to Linens 'N Things for some Nate Berkus (a.k.a. Oprah's Cutie Pie and my other favorite designer) throw pillows and a new chocolate brown mirror, my bedroom is starting to come together.  I still have some work to do.  They were out of queen sized sheets that corrdinate with my bedding, but that's why they invented eBay, so the sheets are on their way.  Since we are still renting, I cannot paint the walls, but I dream of a day in the future when I can paint our bedroom a warm chocolate color.

Of course, the Golfer thinks that will make the bedroom too small, but I still have plenty of time to get him to change his mind.
