Committing to exercise. It's a good thing.

I found this helpful Thank You! Your vote will be tallied soon!

A little gift to myself.

I never actually thought it would happen, but I now actually enjoy exercising.

It's a miracle!

In her new book "I Feel Bad About My Neck", Nora Ephron says, "When you're young, you should put on a bikini and not take it off until you are thirty-four."  Well, she's right and I wish I had followed that advice.  But now that I am 34 years old, no matter how badly I want to turn back the clock and put on that bikini, it's not going to happen.

So several months ago, I made a decision that I had to get busy.  I lost a few pounds (around six to be exact,) but then I gave in to temptation, fell off the wagon, and never got back on.  Until two weeks ago.

I have talked before about my joining a gym.  Well, I finally did it.  I had planned to do it a couple of months ago, but then I started to worry.  Even though it wasn't a huge sum of money that I would be plunking down each month (around fifty bucks), I didn't want to pay for something and never use it.  Every time I asked the golfer what he thought, he reminded me that I had joined gyms in the past and had never gone.

Well this time, I am bound and determined that that won't happen.  I finally bit the bullet and made the commitment and joined our local YMCA.  I really like it there.  It's not a huge massive gym with lots and lots of people.  Instead, it is moderately sized and filled mostly with people a generation or two older than myself.  I love being there with the AARP members.  Not because I get to feel young and beautiful.  Far from it.  I like it because it's not a beauty contest.  I'm not worried that when I go in there that I don't have any make-up on or that my black work-out shorts are old and faded.  I see the same people there every day, who are usually there for their senior swim aerobic class.  They smile at me and wave to my kids as we walk to the child watch area that my children enjoy.  It's a nice place to be and I actually find that I look forward to going there.

For two weeks now I've been faithful.  I haven't seen a massive weight drop yet, but I definitely feel the difference.  I'm not as hungry, I have more energy, and more importantly I feel good about myself.  I was so proud of myself for my mini-accomplishment that I went out and bought myself a few new pieces of work-out wear.

Hey, it might not be a beauty contest at my gym, but having some work-out clothes from this millennium might be nice, don't you think?

Me too.
