We've bought a house!
A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that we were in the process of looking for a new home. Not only did we find one, but we found one at a great price! I love finding a bargain, and house hunting is no exception.
We are so excited about the idea of living in a house again, especially because we are gaining almost 1,000 square feet. The boys, who have been sharing a bedroom, will each have their own bedroom. I'm almost as excited about it as they are. I am hoping that separating out all of their toys into two rooms might help it actually help in keeping it all organized and clean.
I know. Wishful thinking...
One of the things that I haven't missed about owning a home is all of the maintenance required. In anticipating all of the monthly expenses that we will have with the new house, we've quickly been reminded how expensive owning is verses renting. For the last two years in our townhouse, we have had no yard to keep up or water. And a small townhouse is pretty cheap to heat and cool, not to mention if something breaks like our dishwasher did a month ago, it isn't our responsibility to fix.
But all of that is such a small price to pay (literally) for all of the joy that comes with owning a new home. I've been busy picking out new light fixtures and paint for the walls. Yesterday we bought a new couch for the family room and I've mentally started to place our furniture in each room. It's all made me extra busy, but I've waited two years for it and I really don't mind.
The Cheese informed me last night at dinner that he wants an "outer space room." I'm not a big fan of doing themed rooms, especially since kids move so quickly from one obsession to the next, but this theme might not be too bad. It helps that I've found some cool bedding that would make for a darling boy's bedroom.
Now I have to decide what to do to the Monkey's room that will be equally exciting. He's still really into super heroes, but there's no telling how long that will last. I've thought about painting one of the walls in his room with chalkboard paint, but I'm a little nervous about the constant mess. And telling a 3-year-old that it is okay to write on the wall is never a good thing.
So one month from today we will be moving into our new home. My blood pressure starts to go up when I think for too long about everything that needs to happen between now and then--packing, painting, etc. So for now, I will simply bask in the glory of being a homeowner once again.
