The blooming dogwoods and azaleas at The Masters

I knew that it was probably a bad idea to leave town when the day before I left my child threw up.

I was already having some anxious feelings about leaving and my child getting sick only made those feelings worsen. But...the non-refundable airplane ticket had been purchase months before and I had really been looking forward to this trip. I was leaving my children at home with my mother to join the Golfer on a business trip. Even though he'd be working the whole time, it was time alone with my husband that I had really been looking forward to.

One way or another, I was leaving for this trip.

Luckily the Cheese only threw up once. After a nap, he seemed to recover fine. We picked my mother up from the airport and I packed my bad to leave early the next morning. I chose to ignore all of the airline issues of late, and felt confident that I'd arrive at… Read More

Moving on...

So after thirty long days (and I do mean long), we are finally taking possession of our new house today. This is the third house that I've bought in my adult life, and I have to say that it has been the most stressful. But, as I have heard it said before, "to whom much is given, much more is required."

I can now safely say that I officially hate packing. We have now moved three times in the last two years, and… Read More

I decided yesterday afternoon that I wanted to make a good, old fashioned Sunday dinner.

I was inspired by a new website that I discovered, ThePioneerWoman.com. I think why I find her website so interesting is that she is living a totally different life than I am.

I live in a big city. She lives on a working cattle ranch.

I have two kids. She has four.

My kids go to public school and private pre-school. Her kids are homeschooled on the… Read More

First T-ball practice

Posted March 25, 2008
Just wanted to share a quick story about the Cheese's first tee ball practice. Here are the highlights:

The Cheese, totally fired up, runs up to the coach first thing and informs him that he is "really good at baseball" to which his coach replies, "I can tell! You look like a great baseball player!" I like the coach immediately.

As I am yelling at the Monkey to put his shirt back on (and taking his picture in… Read More

There was an Open House at the Cheese's school last week. He had been talking about it for several days--it was quite obvious that he was very excited about it.

"So what am I going to see at Open House?" I asked him.

"I get to show you my journal from Writer's Workshop!" he said.

Whenever I can actually get the Cheese to talk about school it usually is about Writer's Workshop. More than once he has informed me of what a good… Read More

Easter egg hunt in a box

Posted March 20, 2008

I now know where I get my creativity from.

Since my boys couldn't be at my mom's annual Easter egg hunt, she sent it to them. Today an Easter egg hunt arrived in a regular, priority mail box. With instructions to "Open on this end" I found a note telling me to dump the contents out on the floor. When I did, there was green Easter basket grass and plastic eggs filled with goodies.

Just like a regular egg hunt, my… Read More
