Week 36: Slowing Down

I found this helpful Thank You! Your vote will be tallied soon!

In theory, four more weeks left until the new baby arrives. Yes, there was no week 35 update, but that's because there wasn't much new to report then. However, this week there is news.

The baby is no longer breech!

The doctor did an ultrasound to determine position on Thursday, and we got to see the baby's very large head in the right position. I have no idea if the chiropractic treatments helped turn her around, or if it was my evenings inverted, or the homeopathic medicine I tried, but something finally convinced her to flip and position herself for entry into the world.

Like I said, though, she does have a large head, and my doctor was sure to stress this more than once. "I still want the VBAC," I told her. "Large heads run in the family, but thankfully so does a wide pelvis."

I also had my first internal check this week, and was surprised to learn I was one centimeter dilated! One down, nine to go, right? If only the other nine could be that easy.

The one negative this week is that my energy level has plummeted. Dragging myself off the couch is a chore, and by midday I already feel the need for a nap. Chores have overtaken me, and I can no longer catch up. It probably doesn't help that it's now impossible to get comfortable at night, so I'm up every hour or two to switch positions, which as any pregnant woman knows requires you to be fully awake in order to exert the effort to roll over. It's not as simple as when you're not pregnant - rolling over is now a full five point maneuver.

I also find myself wondering what hopeful optimism made me think I could work up until delivery? I work in a service-based industry, and while I try very hard to care about the people I help, the exhaustion taking over me has removed any excitement I have about going to work, along with any feelings of accomplishment at the end of the day.

But the good news is that a new baby will be here soon, and our family will be complete. And all the backache, nausea, fatigue, and stress will have been worth it.
