Product Review: I Love My Tivo
0 |
I'm convinced Tivo was created for parents. When my husband and I first heard about digital video recorders, we thought it was a wasteful expense. We had a VCR, it worked relatively well, and we thought it silly to need anything else. Oh, how innocent we were.
Then we had a daughter who loves TV, and loved to wake up right in the middle of our favorite programs. If we didn't have a tape primed and ready in the VCR, we'd miss out on part of a show while we took care of Cordy. And once she started developing preferences for favorite TV shows, it was hard to give in to demands for Blue's Clues if we didn't have episodes taped, cued up and ready to go.
So about a year ago we gave in and bought a Tivo and the service that goes with it. And truthfully? I can't imagine life without my Tivo. Thanks to this little electronic device, I'm no longer rushing home to make sure I don't miss House, or missing the middle of an episode to make dinner or put Cordy to bed. If Cordy has a nightmare while I'm watching TV, I can simply pause it, settle her backĀ into bed, then come back to the living room, hit play, and keep watching. If it's recorded, I can also fast-forward through commercials. If I miss something and forget to press pause, I can always rewind up to 20 minutes back to see what I missed.
Tivo lets you set up Season Pass recordings, too. This means you can choose for Tivo to automatically record every episode of a show you like. It can record every single episode, or it can record only new episodes and skip repeats. You can also search for programs you might be interested in by keyword or genre. If you have a wireless network set up in your house, you can also program your Tivo when you're away by logging into your account on the Tivo website and selecting programs you want your Tivo to record.
We use our Tivo to record a few programs we aren't always home for, but mostly we use it to record Cordy's favorite TV programs. We have quite a selection of children's programming available to us on Tivo. But we have no videos to shuffle around, no fast-forwarding to get to a particular show, and we can easily delete programs she's no longer interested in to make room for new ones.
We're planning to upgrade our Tivo soon to the new dual-tuner series 2 model. This will give us the ability to record one program while watching another, or record two different programs at the same time. I think I'm in love.
