Planning A Third Birthday Party

Posted August 22, 2007

In a little less than a month, Cordy will be turning three years old. While I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the thought that my firstborn baby will now be a preschooler (!), I'm also frantically trying to plan a birthday party.

The parties of the past two years didn't really count, since there's no way she'll remember them. Everyone supposedly puts a lot of effort and work into baby's first birthday, but I did little more than buy… Read More

A mom never has an easy schedule. Not only does she have to manage her own appointments, whether she works or stays home, she is often the scheduler for her entire family. Dentist appointments, PTA meetings, summer camp pick up times, family outings, baseball practice, dance recitals, bills due, etc. -- it's enough to give anyone a migraine. And with the return of school imminent, schedules of moms everywhere are about to get busier as after-school activities resume as well.

However, today there was no chorus of, "Noooo schooooool!" as I pulled her t-shirt over her head and put her shoes on her feet. Maybe she doesn't realize we're going to school, I thought. The morning progressed on as usual with breakfast and a… Read More

Beyond the Nuclear Family

Posted August 12, 2007
This evening we visited my husband's parents for dinner. It was a simple cookout - food we could have easily prepared at home - but what was more important was the time Cordy got to spend with her grandparents. While dinner was prepared, Cordy played ball with them, fed their goldfish, pulled them all over the house to show them what she was interested in, and ran circles around them. They, of course, were thrilled to play with her and… Read More

Keeping Safe and Cool in the Heat

Posted August 08, 2007

Most of the US can agree with me at the moment that it's hot. Really hot. Some areas are worse than others, but I don't think anyone is feeling comfortable. This is also the time of the year when we should pay close attention to heat safety.

I saw this story on CNN, and I was heartbroken. The mother left her children in a hot car all day long because she didn't have a babysitter and was told she… Read More
