Product Review: the Hot Mama Wrap

I found this helpful Thank You! Your vote will be tallied soon!

Almost as soon as I found out I was pregnant, I started to research babywearing. I wanted to take care of Hamlet's new sibling without making him feel pushed aside--but I needed a better solution than the conventional front carrier I'd bought, which I couldn't nurse in and may harm an infant's developing spine.

After figuring out that a wrap (as opposed to a pouch, ring sling, mei tai, or other similar carriers) appeared to meet our needs best, it was time to research which one. Cost was important, but so were wearability and durability.

In particular, the choice between woven and stretchy fabrics was important. Stretchy wraps make it easy for a wrap-inexperienced mother (me) to "pop" a baby in and out of carries, but can lose their form as the baby grows. Woven wraps, on the other hand, don't stretch or lose their strength--but they are harder to work with.

I found Mom and Me Creations' Hot Mama Wrap the best hybrid between the two. The wrap is made of hemp jersey, so it has some stretch, but not too much. It also comes in different sizes, which is helpful for the many sizes of mothers. Finally, the colors are lovely. You can order a wrap in a solid color for a lower price ($60), or customize one with beautiful tie-dye, color wash, or sprayed design patterns ($75)--and support a mom-based business when you do.
