He had better ergonomics as a baby
Before I ever had kids, I swore I'd never let mine play on adult-size computers. Not because I was afraid of content, but because of simple biomechanics.
Okay, biomechanics is anything but simple. Still, the idea of such small body parts using items made for much larger parts made me nervous. We all know how the wrong shoes, posture, or gait can create acute or even chronic pain in our adult bodies. How, then, could the wrong "fit" between children and computers affect them?
I never did do that research. By the time I had a child, I was too busy to remember. Then Hamlet discovered games.
Admittedly, I never realized that just sitting him on my lap and playing games for him would lead to him wanting to play for himself. (No, as a matter of fact, I had no clue about children until I had my own.)
So Hamlet uses our Dell. Discards the mouse pad and moves the mouse around, his little arm stuck straight out from his torso as he kneels on the chair and leans over the keyboard. It's a position that would make any ergonomist cringe.
The best I can do is limit his computer time. Right now, that's not hard; he only plays for about half an hour before he gets bored. As he grows older, though, it will become more of a concern. Guess I'd better get cracking with the research!
