When Prenatal Care is a Bore
1 |
I'm a little disappointed to find that my prenatal appointments are pretty boring this time around. I remember with my first pregnancy, eagerly anticipating each visit, coordinating with my husband like pre-launch NASA to make sure that he didn't miss a single one. I know proper pre-natal care is important it's just that nothing really happens at these visits, unless something does, in which case you dont complain in your blog about them.Â
Couple routine checks, heartbeat, weight, blood pressure- check. Need vitamins? No? Ok, see you next month! Even my OB's dire warnings are starting to sound routine: Month 4: You need to watch your weight gain or you are going to end up with a C. Month 5: You REALLY need to watch your weight gain or you will end up with a C. Month 6: Dont be suprised if you end up with a C. Yawn. I get it. If I could stop gaining I would, trust me. The threat of surgery is nothing compared with the reality of getting on that scale at home every day.
My husband hasn't been to a single prenatal appointment this time, except for two ultrasounds. I like to kid him about neglecting his second son, but I can't even manage to put too much pretend drama around it to extract whatever guilt currency it might bring. I think I must be in the doldrums of early 3rd trimester. Too big to be perky and prenatally cute, but still too long to go to feel like this is ever going to end.
