Like many bloggers, I have some vague idea that I am, deep down, a writer. This persists despite my career having nothing to do with writing; I always assumed at some point, I would pick it up and write a book or something.
Which makes it interesting that when Disney asked me to be a contributing blogger on Family.com I almost said no, concerned that having to post on a regular basis would cramp my style. My style clearly being inconsistent.
I examined my position. It was an opportunity to write in what is sure to be a popular forum, what did I want? To skip the writing and win a Booker award directly? Or maybe better yet, pass on having to attend an award ceremony and go directly to the best seller royalty checks.
I noticed that my writing fantasy always seems to start with the receipt of a huge advance check. Then the daydream wanders into picking out tile for my new luxury steam shower.
As it turns out, writing on a regular basis isn't so hard. Once started, the posts just write themselves somehow. The initiative for a book still seems to be lacking, along with the (details, details) concept for one, but please, serious writers like me have little time for such minor concerns.
