Review: Britax Marathon

Family.com is very interested in my review on products. So much so that I am compelled to regularly pick objects from around the house and tell everyone just what I think of them. My husband is hopeful this means he will hear a lot less about them as it will be channeled to my blog.
To start with, I will review the car seat that I spend hours per week silently cursing. Don't get me wrong, the Britax Marathon is a highly rated convertible car seat trusted by experts a lot more qualified than me, but I say Britax is suffering from overambitious marketing and if they think you can fit a 65lb child into their seats they are welcome to borrow my just-turned-3 year old for this test. And I suggest they bring a BIG shoehorn. When I bought two of these million dollar seats (ok, around $250), I assumed I would be driving my son to first grade in them, not surfing around the internet two years later in a panicked frenzy trying to get my hands on their up-to-80lb $280 seats.
Admittedly, my son is a touch off the normal range for a recently turned 3 year old at over 43 inches and almost 50lbs (he wears a size 7). His size is inherited from my 6'7" husband who descends from a family of giants (not literally, don't be silly). However, he should have 15lb left to go in this seat and is too young for a booster. It takes an extensive wrestling match to get him wedged into the seat and in the end he is literally pinned and will protest with surprised indignation "I'm stuck!". It's so sad, Britax.
At the risk of dazzling you with my mathematic wizardry, if the seat is supposed to work from 20 to 65 lbs and it maxed out 15lbs early, that's 33% of utility not realized. That translates into about $82 dollars worth of seat, which I surely would have used to buy into the Google IPO, so best as I can tell, Britax owes me approximately $14,000 in compensation.
