Mama's Little Helpers

Pregnant ladies, listen up, this review is for you.  If you have been pregnant before, you will no doubt be aware of the little problem referred to as "heartburn" that will find its way to you by your third trimester.  "Heartburn" doesnt really do it justice since in reality its more like choking on vials of corrosive acid that leads you to sleep in an upright position like grandma in her easy chair, and clutch bottles of Tums for dear life, your lips forever tinged by chalky white dust.

After chomping through bottle after bottle of Tums in my first pregnancy, I begged my doctor for something stronger, and was prescribed some strange clear liquid for surgery patients, which did nothing for me.  This pregnancy, after getting hit with heartburn early in my second trimester, I gamely asked again in case there had been any medical advances, and was told to try OTC Zantac 75.

Low and behold, this stuff works!  I take one in the morning and sometimes another in the evening and between that and a few Tums here and there the heartburn has been manageable.  Not a distant memory, but much better than it was.   Although my son, still scarred by my pre-Zantac days, will ask whenever I look like I don't feel well,  "Mama do you need a TUM?" and runs off to get them like his pants are on fire.

The only downside is that I continuously get the name mixed up with Xanax and occasionally complain to coworkers or others that I forgot to take my Xanax.  I've gotten a few smart-mouthed comments over that, but overall, I'd still recommend the product; the perception that I might be a strung-out pill popper not withstanding.
