Potty Training Update: My Kid's a Genius
0 |
We've had a bit of a breakthrough in the last week on potty training. While I wouldn't enter Jack into the Potty Trained Masters Tournament yet, at least he has (drumroll) actually gone on the potty. I feel like my kid just invented the polio vaccine, I'm so impressed and proud.
His dedication to this is spotty and random for now, but we have a chart and he gets trips and stickers and treats and all sorts of things to completely blow his accomplishments out of proportion, but hey, we're parents of the 21st century.
This happened none too soon as preschool edges ever closer and I was just sullenly reading a book about one-day potty training that involved this elaborate party that had to be planned weeks in advance and involved presents and cake and balloons and oh yes, guests. It seemed insane, yet I kept reading because I'm the desperate parent of a 3 year old in diapers. I thought, oh well, maybe I'll get some cupcakes or something. Then I got to the part where the book said YOU MUST FOLLOW THIS PROGRAM EXACTLY OR IT WILL NOT WORK. Like those emails you get that say you must forward to 10 people within an hour or bad luck will rain down on your head and ruin your salon blow out.
I am so glad my original plan of action of nervously wringing my hands and waiting for the child to take the initiative seemed to finally pan out.
