I'm Surprised I Didn't Die Instantly

For the last two months, I have been bemoaning to anyone who wanders too closely that my weight is spiraling out of control.   In non-pregnancy circumstances, I find staying shape easy, the problem is I find *getting* in shape a darn-near miracle.   I've been known to be temporarily out of shape for years as a result of this.

Still, my first trimester went ok and I only gained 3lbs.   I figured I was on track for 20lb gain, similar to what I gained with my first and had high hopes for a quick return to my pre-pregnancy figure.   Then...the last two months I gained 10 pounds each month.   Admittedly, I'm eating more, and exercising less (or ok, not at all), but I still cant figure out the science behind gaining 3lbs overnight, as has happened more than once.   It just seems impossible.

Recently, I've been nibbling on this cake that my nanny brought home from a dinner out with friends.   It was a whole cake packaged for take-home, and while I noticed there was a nutrition label on the box, it seemed like such a buzz-kill to have a nutrition label on chocolate cake, I ignored it.   Until last night when I lackadaisically glanced at it while shoveling down another few forkfuls and thought I was seeing things.   I looked closer.  1530 calories, per slice.  71 grams of fat.

I think I am starting to crack that scientific anomaly.
