Potty Training Update: Not So Much

I found this helpful Thank You! Your vote will be tallied soon!

There was a time when I thought Jack would be a potty training prodigy.  At 19 months, he acted as if he wanted to potty train and I thought "gosh this is so easy!" and ran out and bought the paraphernalia. This intrigued him for approximately two days after which he wanted nothing to do with it.

Unconcerned, I figured, well, who needs a potty prodigy anyway- good move Jack, save your talent for something else!  Still, I expected at some point in his 2's he would get up one day and decide he was done with diapers and that would be it.

Meanwhile, the $35 dollar a week habit ticks on, and he is now 38 months. Saying months at this point seems ridiculous, but pride demands that when I say my 3 year old isn't trained that he's a young 3!  Still young or not, he's one of the last hold outs among his friends.

The frustrating part is that he knows when he is going to "go", tells us about it, rejects our offers of taking him to the FUN FUN potty that ends with TREATS and PARTIES (or whatever stream of endless advice we have gotten recently calls for), then goes in his diaper and says "I'm wet." Well, yeah... And he isn't afraid of the potty, he shows people where they are and how they work if anyone asks if he is potty trained.  A little potty tour operator of sorts.  He is just holding out.

At this point I am thinking the new baby will potty train before Jack.  So if your kid ends up next to the kid surreptitiously wearing six layered pulls ups to preschool next fall, don't say I didn't warn you!
