Fast Food--Eating on the Road

Posted August 12, 2007
The first few days of my husband's hospital stay were a complete blur. They aren't much better yet (read updates on my personal blog, Cooking with Anne), but I'm getting better at dealing with them. The day of the accident I ate breakfast, found out he was hurt, ran to the hospital and didn't eat again until 8 p.m. The next day I stayed home since he was in surgery earlier in the day and would be too… Read More

One Day at a Time

Posted August 04, 2007

I've been thinking about what to post next here, but my mind isn't exactly on food right now. I could probably pull together some type of 'fluff', but blogs are supposed to have a personal edge--agreed? Since adversity is part of being a family, I'm going to share what is going on in my life at the moment before getting back to food-as-usual.

On this past Thursday, my husband, who is an ironworker, fell 26 feet from the roof of the… Read More

I'm a Rule Breaker

Posted August 01, 2007

Sitting here at my dining room table with my 8 month-old daughter in her high chair busily scooping and dropping (and occasionally eating) Honey Nut Oat-O's, I start wondering what type of parent I must be to let my young child eat something that contains a potential, and common, allergen before age one. Lazy? Non-caring? Irresponsible? I think, none of the above.

The truth of that matter is that we're not an allergy-prone family. So far (remember that 'so far' means… Read More

A.K.A. Vegetables

Posted July 29, 2007
I'm not sure why kids don't like veggies. I've always liked them very much; in fact, I write about them weekly, so I can't quite figure out where a dislike for them would come from. So far, my kids are pretty good with eating veggies. I've noticed a pattern, though, and it seems like they start out liking them, and somewhere around age 5, they form an aversion to many. It peaks around 10 year-old and by 12… Read More

Cool Pies

Posted July 25, 2007

Pie is perfect for the fall and winter months, right? Wrong! Pie is awesome in the summertime, especially the no-bake and freezer types. My own preference is for the creamy chocolate or fruit flavored versions, but several of my family really like the all-out-berry types. I admit I'm not a huge berry fan, especially if they're cooked. I like just plain old ripe berries like raspberries.

There are several types of no-bake pies that are so easy to throw together. The… Read More

Magicians, Books and Picnics

Posted July 24, 2007

Weekends here are usually fairly boring. My husband often works on a Saturday, and my weekly shopping is done on weekends, as well. This last weekend, though was a bit more fun than usual. Beware, our idea of fun is probably everyone else’s idea of normal.

It started on Friday with my oldest daughter heading off to nearby Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom. She had a terrific time, sort of a last 'fling' before college, with two of her… Read More
