The End of Breastfeeding

Posted February 06, 2008

It's done. As of this week, Mira is officially weaned. Eight months is a very respectable run for breastfeeding, although a part of me feels a twinge of sadness that we didn't go for a full year.

The problem started in early December when Cordy was kind enough to bring a stomach bug home from school and share it with all of us. After two days of vomiting, with no food and very little water, I had little left to produce milk.… Read More

With Valentine's Day a little more than a week away, my husband and I are starting to plan out how we're going to celebrate. This was so much easier when we didn't have kids. Back then one of us could plan something elaborate, either at home or whisking the other person out for dinner or a night away. And forget being spontaneous - kids seem to find a way to pull a lot of the spontaneity out of your life.… Read More

How Much Fun Can You Have With A Box?

Posted January 30, 2008

Turns out, grandmothers everywhere were right: give a child a gift, and they'll prefer to play with the box.

Cordy received a gift over the holidays that arrived in a large box. While she played with the toy for quite a while, it turns out that the box has been even more interesting than the toy. At first, the box was tossed out into the garage, where I planned to eventually break it down and send it to recycling. But one… Read More

It's Never Too Early To Start Reading

Posted January 27, 2008

All of the experts say that reading to your baby is so important. It promotes an interest of reading, it teaches them about things not normally found in their environments, and it is a bonding experience.

Of course, it feels a little silly to read a book to someone who would rather chew on the pages than listen to the story. I'll admit that when Cordy was a baby I didn't read to her very much. Occasionally I'd bring out one… Read More

Ignoring the Milestone Charts

Posted January 23, 2008
It's amazing how different two babies can be. While I know Cordy and Mira are two completely different children, I still find it hard not to compare Mira to her older sister when it comes to developmental milestones. Cordy didn't get her first tooth until nearly nine months old, while Mira had two teeth pop out at four months. Cordy sat up for the first time at seven months, while Mira did it at six months. Cordy crawled at nine… Read More

A Day in the Life of a Mom of Two

Posted January 21, 2008

4:30am - Baby wakes. Bring her to bed, feed her, and take her back to her crib. Attempt to go back to sleep.

5:00am - Husband's alarm goes off. He gets up and showers. I again try to go back to sleep.

5:30am - Husband lets the preschooler out of her room. Cordy is full of energy as she bounds down the stairs to get breakfast. I pull the covers over my head.

6:15am - I'm up for the day as my husband leaves… Read More
