Yesterday morning, my husband and I quietly celebrated a milestone. Our older daughter, Cordelia, drank her milk with her breakfast, like any other morning. But unlike every other morning, that milk contained the last dose of her antibiotic. After two weeks of coughing, congestion and diarrhea, she is now better, but the road there was not an easy one.
Why must it be so hard to give medication to a child? It seems like the more they need something to make… Read MoreYesterday I had to endure one of the events that no parent wants to face: taking my child to the emergency room of the local Children's Hospital. While my klutz toddler might seem the obvious choice, it was actually Mira who needed the visit.
Cordy was sick last week, and over the weekend she was kind enough to share her virus with the rest of the family. At first, my husband and I were the sniffly ones. But then Monday… Read MoreIf you asked my husband, he would tell you I'm practically deaf. The TV, when in my control, is usually pretty loud. When I'm in the car on my own, I love cranking up the radio until people outside can hear the music, even with the windows up. I'm sure I listen to my iPod at volume levels that are considered unsafe.
However, despite my fondness for loud, I can also hear even the softest sounds. You see, moms are… Read MoreI realized that I haven't written much about Miranda since her birth. Truthfully, newborns aren't exactly good writing material. Not much blog fodder to be found in sleeping, eating, and crying. But she is doing her part to keep our lives exciting and busy, so an update is needed, I think.
Lately, the words spoken the most between my husband and I are "remember the crying is supposed to peak at six weeks...it'll get better soon". Mira is currently five weeks… Read MoreOn Saturday, we had not one, but two birthday parties to attend. One was scheduled for early afternoon, and the other was during the late afternoon. Both parties were for children, and both were located in southern Ohio. It actually worked out well, since it meant we could visit with two sets of friends with only one two-hour driving trip.
Before we left, we had to purchase gifts for the two birthday boys. This involved going shopping without Cordy, since… Read MoreToday the temperature inched up into the 90's, with the sun beating down on us and the humidity making the air heavy and sticky. It served as solid proof that summer is here and reminded me of my need to stay stocked up on sunscreen.
For Cordy and I, sunscreen is a must. Oh sure, dermatologists will tell you that everyone should wear sunscreen, and they're right, but my daughter and I can't go outside without a good coating. We're fair-skinned.… Read MoreAbout Me
