Tell us about the theme of your party and how you made it fabulous:

My little Ashlyn was in love with ladybugs, so for her second birthday we celebrated with ladybugs. We had red and black balloons and streamers, a home-made ladybug cake and I found a kit to make a dozen ladybug magnets that we used for decoration and let the guests take home as party favors.

List of Materials (craft) / Ingredients (cakes or cupcakes):

Two 10 inch round cakes
One 8 inch round cake
Butter cream frosting red, black, white, green, and yellow
Black licorice

Instructions for making your party craft or birthday treat:

Bake the cakes and level. Layer the 10 inch cakes and fill with whatever you want (frosting, pudding, etc&) this is the body. Cut the 8 inch cake to fit snug against the body, a crescent shape works well this will be the head. Youll only use one layer for the head so it wont be as high as the body. Using the black frosting draw a straight line down the back of the ladybug to divide the wings. Draw how ever many circles you want for the ladybugs spots, have some of the spots spill off the top and onto the sides of the cakes too. Fill in the spots and cover the whole head with black frosting using a star tip. Fill in the rest of the ladybug with red frosting using a star tip. Add green grass around the base of the ladybug with a grass tip and add yellow flowers if you want also. Cut a piece of black licorice in half and poke each half into the head for the antennae. Use some white frosting to add name and age details to a couple of the spots.

Contest Photo Tips and Guidelines:
  • Avoid clutter. Keep the background simple -- your gingerbread house or holiday cookie is the star!
  • Daytime, natural light is best. If your area is bright enough, try taking the photo without the flash.
  • Upload a horizontal photo. If you crop the image on your computer, make sure you keep a landscape 4:3 aspect ratio.
  • For best results, make your image 1200x900 (or "save for web").
  • With a digital camera, you can take as many photos as possible and choose the best one. Have fun!
