Brief Description:

My son wanted an arachnid on his eighth birthday cake. Instead of asking for a spider, like most kids would have, he opted for a scorpion cake. Quite an original suggestion for an eight year old!

Three Betty Crocker cake mixes for the cake.
Wilton chocolate buttercream frosting (butter, confection sugar, milk, and cocoa powder)
Brown fondant
Honey graham crackers
Chocolate malt balls

Bake the cake in a large round pan, cool, and frost. Use crushed graham crackers on top of cake to look like sand. use malt balls to get the perfect border. Mold the scorpion out of fondant. Use toothpicks ot keep eyes and tail in place. A very easy cake to make!

Contest Photo Tips and Guidelines:
  • Avoid clutter. Keep the background simple -- your cake is the star!
  • Daytime, natural light is best. If your area is bright enough, try taking the photo without the flash.
  • Upload a horizontal photo. If you crop the image on your computer, make sure you keep a landscape 4:3 aspect ratio.
  • For best results, make your image 1200x900 (or "save for web").
  • With a digital camera, you can take as many photos as possible and choose the best one. Have fun!
