The Great Cake Contest of 2011
Mickey Mouse Clubhouse
- Contest Photo by: mnbctgonz
- St. George, UT
- Category: Animal & Character
Brief Description:
This is a cake I made for my son's birthday a couple weeks ago. All of the decorations are made out of homemade fondant except for the characters. Even the fencing around the edge!
Ingredients:
Bottom layer is chocolate cake with homemade Oreo frosting. The top layer is Gluten Free chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. The fondant is made from marshmallows and powdered sugar.
Steps:
First, I layered the top and bottom tiers with fondant. Then I decorated the bottom layer with the clubhouse, hand, trees (around the back) and the pathway. Next, I added the top layer and decorated that with the mouseketool, gears, etc. Then I added the ears with the letters, the ribbons and the characters. The last step, I added the gates and the fencing around the edge of the cakeboard.
Contest Photo Tips and Guidelines:
- Avoid clutter. Keep the background simple -- your cake is the star!
- Daytime, natural light is best. If your area is bright enough, try taking the photo without the flash.
- Upload a horizontal photo. If you crop the image on your computer, make sure you keep a landscape 4:3 aspect ratio.
- For best results, make your image 1200x900 (or "save for web").
- With a digital camera, you can take as many photos as possible and choose the best one. Have fun!
