Brief Description:

I made this cake for my daughter who loves to play softball. You could use the same idea for a boys baseball cake.

One or two boxes of Cake mix
Cupcake (for the ball)
Buttercream icing
Chocolate icing or Brown cake coloring for white icing to make mitt
Green, red, yellow, blue cake coloring

Make cake according to directions on box and let cool. I used a 1/4 sheet cake pan for this cake and one cupcake.
Once cake has cooled ice cake with green colored icing.
Pipe a baseball diamond onto cake using a white icing or light brown icing.
The mitt was made by placing chocolate (or light brown)icing into a bag and piping five fingers and the palm part of mitt. Using a #3 or #4 tip pipe stitching around the mitt. Place cupcake in the middle of the mitt to make the ball. Ice cupcake and make stitching on ball. Using a grass tip make patches of grass around the field. Pipe icing stars around cake. The border was piped on using a #22 tip

Contest Photo Tips and Guidelines:
  • Avoid clutter. Keep the background simple -- your cake is the star!
  • Daytime, natural light is best. If your area is bright enough, try taking the photo without the flash.
  • Upload a horizontal photo. If you crop the image on your computer, make sure you keep a landscape 4:3 aspect ratio.
  • For best results, make your image 1200x900 (or "save for web").
  • With a digital camera, you can take as many photos as possible and choose the best one. Have fun!
