Brief Description:

baked 3 round chocolate cakes, filled with chocolate ganache and raspberry filling, after I stacked them, I buttercreamed and chilled overnight. topper is an upside down fish bowl I found at a local pet store, cleaned it thouroughly and placed gumballs in it, I sealed it with a cardboard round and put a fondant rim around it. put aside. after cake is cooled and buttercream is hardened, i placed the pink fondant and used very large skewer for center support. I placed roses and bow and topper. :)

2 1/2 cups cake flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter, at room temperature
2 cups sugar
3 1/2 ounces semisweet or bittersweet dark chocolate, melted and cooled
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups cold water

In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside. In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream the butter and the sugar until light and fluffy. Add the cooled chocolate and vanilla and beat for 3 minutes to incorporate. Beat in the eggs one at a time. Scrape down the sides of the bowl and beat for another 3 minutes. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients in 3 batches, alternating with the cold water. Beat for 1 minute after each addition to incorporate the ingredients. Mix until the batter is smooth.
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, cool for 40 minutes and then refrigerate before carving so cake wont fall apart.

Contest Photo Tips and Guidelines:
  • Avoid clutter. Keep the background simple -- your cake is the star!
  • Daytime, natural light is best. If your area is bright enough, try taking the photo without the flash.
  • Upload a horizontal photo. If you crop the image on your computer, make sure you keep a landscape 4:3 aspect ratio.
  • For best results, make your image 1200x900 (or "save for web").
  • With a digital camera, you can take as many photos as possible and choose the best one. Have fun!
