The Great Cake Contest of 2010
Phineas and Ferb RollerCoaster cake
- Contest Photo by: Chele64

- Category: Animal & Character
Brief Description:
My daughter wanted a Phineas and Ferb party and since there wasn't party goods or a cake pan available, we had to be like the step-brothers and create it ourselves. Their first episode featured the boys constructing a rollercoaster for their friends to enjoy so I thought that would be the perfect theme for the cake.
Ingredients:
2 cake mixes, eggs, oil and water for mixes
1 can of vanilla frosting
food dye
a batch of homemade decorating icing...( 4 cups powdered sugar, 1/2 cup shortening, 4-5 TBSP of milk and 1 TSP vanilla)
sugar wafer cookies
Mini M&M's
print out of the characters, or pipe them with stiff frosting

sugar wafer cookies
Mini M&M's
print out of the characters, or pipe them with stiff frosting
Steps:
Bake the two cake mixes in 4 round pans. Let Cool. Assemble two of the rounds like a normal 2 layer cake. With the remaining cake rounds, cut out about 1/3 to 1/4 of the round part to make the rollercoaster hills. Attach them onto the cake with plastic drinking straws. Cut the straws so they do not show.
Cut a bit of an edge of the remaining cake to make an on-ramp.
Frost the hills and ramp in your desired color scheme.
With piping bag, decorate the structure design of the coaster.
To assemble the cars: cut an inch off each wafer cookie and attach to the hills with a dab of frosting. Add the M&M's as wheels with a bit of frosting.
Cut out the characters and attach with a bit of frosting, bending them to appear to be sitting in the coaster cars. Hang on tight and enjoy the ride!

Contest Photo Tips and Guidelines:
- Avoid clutter. Keep the background simple -- your cake is the star!
- Daytime, natural light is best. If your area is bright enough, try taking the photo without the flash.
- Upload a horizontal photo. If you crop the image on your computer, make sure you keep a landscape 4:3 aspect ratio.
- For best results, make your image 1200x900 (or "save for web").
- With a digital camera, you can take as many photos as possible and choose the best one. Have fun!
