Instructions
Making the Nose
Lay cardboard box out flat.
Have child lay with bottom edge of cardboard as low as you want the costume.
Use marker to outline an isosceles triangle slightly larger than the child's body and extending above head as far as desired (or as high as cardboard extends). (This is the back of the Nose.)
Use the back-Nose to make two identical right triangles the same height. The side opposite of the 90* angle may be sloped-and-rounded-and-shaped to resemble a nose-shape (hooked, pointed, bulb-ish, etc.).
Using the strong packing tape, tape the nose-shapes together -- the identical fronts, then tape the side-of-each-front to the back-Nose. All three pieces of triangle should resemble a three-dimensional triangle (or pyramid) with the opening at the bottom.
Estimate placement for arm-holes by measuring your child -- then cut openings with scissors.
Place the rough-Nose on your child and mark placement for the eye-holes. Remove rough-nose from child and cut eye-holes.
Optional: glue 8" strip of mesh-like fabric over eye-holes. Be sure the child can see plainly through the fabric.
Use crumpled newspaper wads to fashion balls.
Tape newspaper balls on lower-sides of the nose to resemble nostrils.
Paint nose with flesh colored paint and allow to dry.
(Optional: Depending upon how much space extends above your child's head, you may stuff a small pillow to make the costume more comfortable on your child's head.)
Making the mustache
Use scissors to cut cotton fabric into strips 1-inch wide and 40-ish inches long, depending on the height of your child.
Note: For safey, don't allow the fabric strips to drag on the ground or it could cause your child to trip.
Tie the fabric strips to the stick, spreading evenly as they hang down to resemble a mustache.
Tie two or more of the fabric strips to a belt.
Fasten the belt around your child's waist and allow the mustache-stick to hang about mid-thigh.
Putting it all together
Put on the black shirt, black pants, black shoes and black gloves.
Fasten belt with mustache around waist
Put on the Nose
Voila ... WHO KNOWs WHO's in that NOSE ...
- Avoid clutter. Keep the background simple -- your costume is the star!
- Daytime, natural light is best. If your area is bright enough, try taking the photo without the flash.
- Upload a horizontal photo. If you crop the image on your computer, make sure you keep a landscape 4:3 aspect ratio.
- For best results, make your image 1200x900 (or "save for web").
- With a digital camera, you can take as many photos as possible and choose the best one. Have fun!
