Contest Photo by: yumongiardo

Description

Every year our daughter selects a fun and interesting object to be for halloween. She has been a blue US Postal mail box with working candy chute, a large push-botton telephone, a pink tea pot and this year a Tide detergent bottle. Victoria picked the Tide bottle this year because not only is the image strong but it would be fun to bring an every-day item to life. Our duaghter is inveolved in every step of creating the corregated card board shell and also in the painting and trim.

Materials

a card board box from homedepot

duct tape

white paper

glue

orange, blue, white, and yellow paint

Orange long-sleeve T-shirt

Instructions

  • Get 4 large sheets of card board. We purchased our board at Home Depot, however any good clean card board will do. Draw an outline of the shape of 4 sections of the bottle - Front, Back, Left Side and Right Side. Also, create a cylinder shaped box for the spout/lid. The is a cylinder with the front cut out for the face to show.

  • Using very good scissors, safely cut out the 4 shapes and the cylinder.

  • On the sides of the box cut out the hole for the arms. On the left side in addition to the arm hole, cut out another hole below where you can tape a bag there to hold the candy and also a place to put your child's arm to complete the look of the bottle handle.

  • Using duct tape, tape all 4 sections together. Make sure to to tape both the inside and out of the box. Also, tape the cylinder to the top of the box.

  • Using white Elmer's Glue, glue white construction paper around the entire outside of the box and the lid.

  • Paint the entire body of the box orange base color and the lid blue.

  • Draw the label on white construction paper and glue the label to the bottle. A label can be found on the front and the back. On the front label we added "Original Scent" and on the back we added "Caution: Keep Out of Reach of Adults". It's always fun to personalize the label.

  • Have fun!

Tips for Taking a Great Photo:
    • Avoid clutter. Keep the background simple -- your costume is the star!
    • Daytime, natural light is best. If your area is bright enough, try taking the photo without the flash.
    • Upload a horizontal photo. If you crop the image on your computer, make sure you keep a landscape 4:3 aspect ratio.
    • For best results, make your image 1200x900 (or "save for web").
    • With a digital camera, you can take as many photos as possible and choose the best one. Have fun!
