Description
I love sock monkeys! Since my youngest son had absoulutely no preference as to what he was for Halloween, I took the opportunity to dress him up in whatever I wanted to. I had so much fun with this costume. He looked so adorable crawling around with "a monkey on his back". And it was toasty warm for the cool weather here in Minnesota.
Materials
I first made a traditional sock monkey from a pair of Original Rockford Red Heel Socks. I added buttons for the eyes and snaps to the paws. I then made my sons costume from an XL men's sweater and two additional pairs of Original Rockford Red Heel Socks.
Instructions
I removed the sleeve of the XL men's sweater to make the body of my sons costume. The end of the sleeve with the cuff was used to make the "cap" part of the costume. I cut off about 6 inches of the sleeve including the cuff, bunched one end of it and tied a piece of yarn around it. I then decorated the "cap" with parts of the socks to make it look like a traditional "sock monkey".
I formed the remainder of the sleeve into the body of the costume. I added additional parts of the socks to the wrist and ankle areas of the costume to continue the sock monkey look.
I then formed a tail from the remainder of the sweater and socks to complete the outfit.
I put the costume on my son, snapped the monkey to his back and away he crawled!
Tips for Taking a Great Photo:
- Avoid clutter. Keep the background simple -- your costume is the star!
- Daytime, natural light is best. If your area is bright enough, try taking the photo without the flash.
- Upload a horizontal photo. If you crop the image on your computer, make sure you keep a landscape 4:3 aspect ratio.
- For best results, make your image 1200x900 (or "save for web").
- With a digital camera, you can take as many photos as possible and choose the best one. Have fun!
