Maesyn The Lil' Skunk

Contest Photo by: boogy_d

Description

This is Maesyn, she is 8 months old and unfortunately she's not very excited by her costume this year. Maybe next year...anyway. Grandma Pat made this costume and she had to make it twice because she grew too much in a months time and outgrew the first one! Daddy calls her his little "stinker" that's why we went with the skunk costume. Grandma went very detailed on the costume, foot pads, and the tail, she eventually even put a pink bow in the head (not pictured) so that people would know she is a girl skunk! HA!

Materials

We got all of the materials at JoAnn's Fabric store. The body suit is a black chenile-type furry fabric (nice and warm for the midwest weather this time of year!) and the white stripes are a longer hair like fabric. The ears and foot pads are just plain brown felt. the Tail is held on with velcrow and ribbons and the hat is tied with ribbon, we figured this woudl be easier than what the pattern recommended since she is not a fan of having anything on her head!

Instructions

  • Have the cutest little stinker in the world...and call her exactly that! That's were we got the idea, Daddy has called her his little "tinker" since she was only a few weeks old, so when it came time to choose a costume for Grandma to make, it was pretty easy. Since Grandma had three costumes to make this year, we decided to start early! But, like i said, we did use a pattern purchased from joAnn's Fabrics and followed that...allowing for the fact that an 8 months old was not going to be that happy in a costume so we did alter it a little bit to make her happier

  • I wish I had some cute "homegrown" costume, but it was homemade, but we did have to use a pattern, hope we are still in the running! :)

Tips for Taking a Great Photo:
    • Avoid clutter. Keep the background simple -- your costume is the star!
    • Daytime, natural light is best. If your area is bright enough, try taking the photo without the flash.
    • Upload a horizontal photo. If you crop the image on your computer, make sure you keep a landscape 4:3 aspect ratio.
    • For best results, make your image 1200x900 (or "save for web").
    • With a digital camera, you can take as many photos as possible and choose the best one. Have fun!
