Itty Bitty Queen Elizabeth 1

Contest Photo by: mommy2-3

Description

We decided this year to dress our little 22 month old girl as Queen Elizabeth. There were no patterns for this age so I took an adult pattern and minimized it on the copier and then made adjustments for a perfect fit. Everything was home sewn by me and all of the trims were hand sewn on. The wig was even handstyled and trimmed. I tried to make this as close as possible to an accurate depiction of what Queen Elizabeth 1 might have worn. She loved to wear it and twirl like a little princess. And when she got candy and smiles it was even better.

Materials

Upholstery Fabrics and yards and yards of ribbons and pearls for the outerskirt. The underskirt and collar was made of caramel colored satin and felt for warmth. The final touch was a full crinolin skirt for warmth and fullness.

Instructions

  • The first thing I did was to find a pattern I liked and to minimize it and make a mock up out of old sheets so that I could make any adjustments. Adjustments were needed to fit and 22 month old who obviously had bust and a large diaper to accomodate.

  • Next we searched out fabrics and trims that were close in style to the Elizabethan time period and collecting all of the extra special items that would make it an one of a kind.

  • The final step was assembling everything and putting in hours of hand sewing including lacework and hand beading of both the dress and the wig. The dress laces up the back just as it would have in that time and also features a special bum bustle piece to create the correct fullness of the skirt.

Tips for Taking a Great Photo:
    • Avoid clutter. Keep the background simple -- your costume is the star!
    • Daytime, natural light is best. If your area is bright enough, try taking the photo without the flash.
    • Upload a horizontal photo. If you crop the image on your computer, make sure you keep a landscape 4:3 aspect ratio.
    • For best results, make your image 1200x900 (or "save for web").
    • With a digital camera, you can take as many photos as possible and choose the best one. Have fun!
