Description

This costume makes your child look headless We called this the Headless Groom becasue she went trick or treating with a ghoulish bridal party.

Materials

For this costume you will need a suit jacket and slacks (preferably bigger than the size the child normally wears) large shoes (she wore her Dad's) a box approximately 18" long by 8" wide by 8" deep, a knit hat, white shirt, suspenders, see through material, hot glue, a black silk flower, black gloves, a fake head (ours was home made with paper mache, but a mask over a ball or something similar would work too)paint, plastic bugs, empty plastic grocery bags, batting, a hot glue gun and a utility knife.

Instructions

  • Have your child put the knit hat on. Then put the box on top of her head. You'll have to mark where the box come over her face. Remove the box and cut out the area where her face will be. Put the box back on her head. The box will become the shoulders of the Headless Groom.

  • Button up the shirt and put it over the box. Mark where her eyes will be. Remove the shirt and cut out where her eyes will be. Sew or glue in small squares of the white see- through fabric into the eye holes. Now she will be able to see out of the shirt, but onlookers won't be able to see her eyes. Her arms will not go in the arms of the white shirt.

  • Put the shirt back over the box (and child's head). Carefully hot glue the shirt onto the box, making sure that the eye holes line up with your child's eyes. You can paint the neck area and glue on creepy bugs for added creepy effect!!

  • Have your child step into the pants. Use the supenders over the "shoulders" (the box) to hold the pants up higher than they would normally go on your child. Have your child put the suit coat on. The coat should hang from the shoulders you created with the box. Her arm swill not go in the arm holes. Stuff white shirt arms into the coat sleeves. Glue the black flower onto the lapel of the suit coat.

  • Stuff one arm of the coat with plastic grocery bags. Stuff one black glove with batting or grocery bags. Glue (or sew) the glove onto the end of the suit coat. Bend the stuffed arm and glue (or sew) the gloved "hand" to the pocket of the suit coat. Nestle the fake head into the crook of the arm and glue into place.

  • Carefully cut a slit into the coat on the other side. Cut a slit in the sleeve of the coat on the inner arm near the elbow. Sew or glue these slits togther so that your child can slip her arm through this secret hole and out the bottom of the suit coat sleeve. This hand will be available to carry her candy bag. (Her other arm will stay hidden inside the coat.) Button one button of the coat the keep it closed.

Tips for Taking a Great Photo:
    • Avoid clutter. Keep the background simple -- your costume is the star!
    • Daytime, natural light is best. If your area is bright enough, try taking the photo without the flash.
    • Upload a horizontal photo. If you crop the image on your computer, make sure you keep a landscape 4:3 aspect ratio.
    • For best results, make your image 1200x900 (or "save for web").
    • With a digital camera, you can take as many photos as possible and choose the best one. Have fun!
