Wire coat hanger
Duct tape
Face paint

Instructions

  • I had each member of the family put on the black hooded sweatshirt, so that I could measure from the top of the hood, to where I thought the tip of the tail would curl nicely. I cut the furry white fabric between 4 & 6 inches wide (depending on the size of the skunk) and sewed it on from just inside of the hood to the bottom edge of the back of the sweatshirt. The remaining white fabric hung past the sweatshirt. I cut black felt a couple of inches longer and wider than the remaining white fabric, and sewed the pieces together. I left a pocket open from the bottom inside of the sweatshirt to the tip of the tail. Here, I slipped a coat hanger (bent and duct taped) to fit between the felt and furry fabric. The hanger allowed the tail to stand up, and curl at the end. I used 2 buttons, one on the upper tail and one on the upper back of the sweatshirt, and wrapped a white string between them to hold the tail up. I cut a large white circle (oval) of fabric and sewed it onto the front of the sweatshirt (making sure to allow the zipper to be zipped up and down inside of the fabic). I cut little black triangular ears out of the remaining black felt, sewed pink felt onto it, and sewed them onto the top of the sweatshirt so that they stood up. Black sweatpants and face paint similar to Flower from Bambi, finished the costume off perfectly.

Tips for Taking a Great Photo:
    • Avoid clutter. Keep the background simple -- your costume is the star!
    • Daytime, natural light is best. If your area is bright enough, try taking the photo without the flash.
    • Upload a horizontal photo. If you crop the image on your computer, make sure you keep a landscape 4:3 aspect ratio.
    • For best results, make your image 1200x900 (or "save for web").
    • With a digital camera, you can take as many photos as possible and choose the best one. Have fun!
