Contest Photo by: shannonv910

Description

My son is 3 and loves tractors so we decided to make him a John Deere tractor costume for Halloween. He loves it!

Materials

2 boxes
2 cans green spray paint
1 empty paper towel roll
1 can black spray paint
black acrylic paint
yellow acrylic paint
elastic
brads
touch lights

Instructions

  • First my husband cut the top flaps off one side of the box for the opening on the bottom. Then he cut half of bottom out which is actually the top of the tractor. Then we put two coats of green spray paint on it.

  • I cut the wheels out of the other box. Two larger wheels for the rear tires, and two smaller wheels for the front tire. I painted the whole tire yellow first and then when it dried I painted the outside edge black to make the tire part. I attached these with brads so they would spin but you could glue them also.

  • I spray painted the empty paper towel roll black and when it was dry I inserted it into a hole I cut in the top front of the tractor for the smokestack. I secured it underneath with tape.

  • I painted a yellow stripe on each side of the tractor and wrote John Deere in black. I also made a stripe like that in the front so everyone could see it from the front too. I also painted his name on the back.

  • I used black elastic for straps so he wouldn't have to hold it up. We used the extra brads we had to attach the ends and also a couple to draw the two strips together behind his back so it was even.

  • My husband bought a four pack of those little lights that you just press that turn on and we put two on the front and two on the back with brads.

Tips for Taking a Great Photo:
    • Avoid clutter. Keep the background simple -- your costume is the star!
    • Daytime, natural light is best. If your area is bright enough, try taking the photo without the flash.
    • Upload a horizontal photo. If you crop the image on your computer, make sure you keep a landscape 4:3 aspect ratio.
    • For best results, make your image 1200x900 (or "save for web").
    • With a digital camera, you can take as many photos as possible and choose the best one. Have fun!
